The Preserve at the Woodlands

Oak Bluffs, Marthas Vineyard

Built around a foundation of substantial hardscaping, this design features custom granite steps and extensive stone retaining walls that provide both structure and timeless character to the landscape. The planting plan utilizes a sophisticated palette of perennials and grasses to create soft, naturalistic layers that harmonize with the rustic masonry. By selecting species with four-season interest - from vibrant summer blooms to the architectural textures of the winter season - the gardens maintain a compelling visual presence year-round. This careful orchestration of stone and flora results in a balanced landscape where the rugged, permeant quality of the hardscape is softened by airy, seasonal drifts of vegetation.
